Pick Your Own Garden

Our shareholder Pick Your Own Garden is a full acre each season, planted proximate to our barn. All shareholders have access to the Pick Your Own Garden, and these crops are a part of the share in addition to the items in the Mix and Match or the pre-boxed share.

We have fun growing this Garden, which includes: sugar snap peas, snow peas, shelling peas, strawberries, herbs, green beans, cut flowers, beautiful sunflowers, edamame, hot peppers, cherry and paste tomatoes, tomatillos, and corn stalks in the fall. In the weekly newsletter and on a chalkboard at the farm, we post a list of what’s available each week.

Some of the items have a limit each week, while others are “take what you can use” – it depends, as always, on the crop and the season. We try to plant more than enough each season, so dilly beans can be canned and children have the opportunity to learn how to harvest.

Over the years, our Pick Your Own Garden has become more than a just a place where shareholders can embellish the weekly share. It’s also a place for friends to meet and for children to run and play; a place to enjoy the farm with a little dirt on hand, to make your own bouquet, and to simply appreciate a beautiful day. Interspersed in the picking, we invite you to bring a picnic, swing on the swings, visit the pigs and hens, and venture off into the woods.

Eastern Massachusetts shareholders are welcome to come out and enjoy the Pick Your Own Garden as often as possible. Because distance limits this, we do include some of these traditional Pick Your Own Crops in the per-boxed shares that we deliver. When you do visit the farm, you are welcome to pick extra from the garden during your visit.
